Everything universities, students and employers ask about VachakCred — in plain language.

Verify a credential

What is VachakCred?

VachakCred is a platform for universities to issue tamper-proof digital academic credentials — degrees, marksheets, provisional certificates and more — and for anyone to verify them instantly. Each credential is digitally signed by the university and anchored on a public blockchain.

How do I verify a degree certificate issued through VachakCred?

Open the Verify page and enter the 26-character credential ID, paste the verification link, scan the QR code printed on the certificate, or upload the PDF. You get a result in seconds. Verification is free and needs no account.

Is verification free for employers?

Yes. Anyone can verify a VachakCred credential without signing up or paying. Universities pay for issuance; verifiers never do.

What does VachakCred check when verifying a credential?

Eight things: that the credential exists, that the issuing university is genuine and active, that its digital signature is valid, that an uploaded PDF matches the issued document byte for byte, that the blockchain anchor matches, that its status is current, that it has not been revoked, and that it is the latest version.

Can someone edit a VachakCred PDF and pass verification?

No. The PDF’s SHA-256 fingerprint is signed by the university and anchored on the blockchain. Changing even one character produces a different fingerprint, and verification reports that the document does not match.

Is student personal data stored on the blockchain?

No. Only a one-way cryptographic commitment is written on-chain. Names, marks and other personal data stay in the university’s private, encrypted storage and are shown only to people the student shares a link with.

Which blockchain does VachakCred use?

VachakCred anchors credentials through an EVM smart contract and is configured for Polygon (the Amoy test network for pilots and Polygon mainnet for production). Batches can be anchored with a Merkle root to keep fees low.

What happens if a certificate has a mistake?

The university issues a corrected credential that replaces the old one on-chain. Anyone verifying the old version is told it was replaced and is pointed to the current one, so history is preserved and nothing is silently overwritten.

Can a university revoke a credential?

Yes, with a second officer’s approval. Revocation and suspension are recorded on the blockchain, and verification immediately shows the credential as revoked or suspended with the recorded reason.

Does VachakCred support Hindi?

Yes. The interface is available in English and Hindi, and certificate templates support Devanagari typography so credentials can be bilingual.

What standards does VachakCred follow?

W3C Verifiable Credentials Data Model 2.0 with Data Integrity proofs (eddsa-jcs-2022 or ecdsa-jcs-2019), did:web identifiers for universities, JSON Schema for credential validation, and SHA-256 hashing throughout.

How do students access their credentials?

Students sign in to their VachakCred wallet, where they can view, download and share every credential their university has issued, and request corrections.
